Wildefire!

In which M2 gets riled over the Idyllwild wildfire

The San Jacinto Mountains area stands among my favorite places in Southern California. It’s a mountain region on the edge of the great desert that sweeps into Arizona. “Palms to pines,” it is a brilliant study in geographical contrasts.

And now, because of some damned arsonist’s malice the mountain is on fire.

Thus far, three people—all heroically courageous firefighters—have been killed in a blaze that has already consumed tens of thousands of acres. Hundreds of houses are in danger. Hundreds have had to evacuate. It will be put out, but the scars of it will last a century.

I don’t know if the crime of arson makes one liable for the death penalty, but I tell you what: if I catch the son-of-a-bitch that did this... well, I won't tell you what...
